The Rotary Club of Box Hill Central has played a key role in supporting the life-changing work of the international charity ‘I Am Someone’, directly contributing to the tertiary education of vulnerable students.
The club’s contributions included funding the tertiary fees for two students, Gift and Immaculate in Uganda. Immaculate—a standout scholar now studying social work at university. Immaculate achieved the highest grades of any student in the ‘I Am Someone’ program and dreams of one day leading its Ugandan operations.
Club member Tess Brooks has lead a team to further bolster the charity’s funds through a successful fundraising initiative at the Heide Market. These combined efforts are part of a broader wave of support that enabled the charity’s significant impact over the past year.
In its latest annual report, ‘I Am Someone’ highlighted that 2024/25 was a year of profound transformation, made possible by its donors. The charity reported providing education for 794 children, ensuring 354 girls stayed in school, and supporting over 2,000 community members with health and welfare programs. Emmy demonstrates another story of life transformation.
“Your generosity doesn’t just meet immediate needs, it creates lasting change,” the charity’s team stated in a message of thanks to supporters like the Box Hill Central club.
The Rotary Club’s partnership exemplifies how local community action can have a global reach, helping to build “strength, dignity, and opportunity for the future” for children and communities half a world away.
