Around 30 club members and partners gathered at Dumpling King for a special dinner to celebrate and farewell Craig Hoath, one of the charter members of our club and a dedicated Rotarian with 35 years of community service.

Craig has recently relocated to Seymour and has now transferred his membership to the Rotary Club of Seymour. The evening began with remarks from Charter President Brian McPhail, who reflected on Craig’s remarkable Rotary journey and his family’s deep roots in the Box Hill community:

*“Craig and I joined as charter members of the Club in 1990. Along with Andrew Forgas, we are now the three remaining charter members.
Both our fathers were members of the Rotary Club of Box Hill (now Box Hill Burwood), our parent club.

The Hoath family were legendary contributors to the Box Hill community throughout the latter half of last century and into the early years of this one.
Cliff Hoath, Craig’s father, and Peter Hoath ran Hoaths Sports Store near the corner of Station and Cambridge Streets—a mecca for sports lovers.

I remember visiting the shop, which carried all the latest gear—cricket bats, pads, footy boots, fishing equipment and more. My parents didn’t approve of guns, so even though the store sold them, I wasn’t allowed to have even a toy one!

Cliff and Lola, Craig’s parents, were devoted supporters of Rotary events and many local Box Hill sporting clubs. Craig himself played football with the Box Hill Pioneers, a club he still follows closely and where he has been made a life member.

Craig has always been a loyal, practical, can-do Rotarian—always ready to roll up his sleeves for hands-on tasks, from BBQs at Bunnings and the Box Hill Mall to behind-the-scenes support, always with Rae by his side.

Craig, you have made an outstanding contribution to Rotary and to our Club. Congratulations, thank you and well done.
We hope you enjoy your membership at the Rotary Club of Seymour. Keep in touch—and please visit whenever you can.”*

Following this heartfelt tribute, Julian shared stories about Craig’s personal interests and unique collections—including his tram, and classic motorbikes—which entertained and delighted everyone present.

A special thank you to Julian for organising this gathering during such a busy period in his business. His efforts ensured the club could properly honour Craig in a warm and memorable way.

The club also greatly appreciates Rae's support over the years and her ten years service in the Operation Cleft board.

It was a wonderful evening celebrating Craig’s service, friendship and enormous contribution over more than three decades. We wish him every success and happiness in Seymour and look forward to welcoming him back whenever he visits.
