The Community Employment Partnership
Rob Jackson and Ian Evans from Nunawading Rotary Club approached Morack Golf Cub and had a conversation about the Community Employment Partnership. Thanks to their efforts Tim secured a job 2 days a week working with the driving range and mini golf team. It is an early start for Tim arriving at 6.30am with his colleagues to pick up the 1000’s of golf balls on the driving range, with either the hand trolley or the tractor. Tim then moves to other tasks such as maintaining the gardens around the mini golf course, weeding, and leaf blowing, or refilling the large cabinets that hold the golf balls.
Why are we working with Rotary in the Community Employment Partnership? People with intellectual disability are significantly underrepresented when it comes to paid work and are often excluded from the many benefits that employment can provide. Many people use and rely on their networks and connections to find employment however, due to a life often segregated from the community, they do not have the same opportunities to make social connections in the same way we do. We are harnessing the power of Rotarians and their vast networks to source potential employers.
Rotarians and their networks have successfully found work for a number of people, often it is their first job, and has transformed their lives and developed their skills and confidence. Updates from RCBHC sourced employment to follow...
