Dear $FIRST_NAME$
At our recent Board meeting, we had a thoughtful and forward-looking discussion centred on engaging younger generations — and, more broadly, ensuring our club remains relevant, welcoming and future-ready.
This conversation quickly moved beyond recruitment. We recognised that meaningful engagement begins with structure. Some immediate fundamental areas we will be reviewing include our membership categories and whether they provide enough flexibility to engage a diverse group of people with different lifestyles, professional demands and personal objectives.
Today’s emerging leaders are seeking purpose, impact, connection, efficiency and flexibility. As part of Rotary International, we are well positioned to offer all of these — but we must ensure our models of participation reflect contemporary realities.
We also agreed that before building something new, we must look deeply at the strengths we already have. Our club has strong foundations — established projects, trusted community partnerships, capable members, and a reputation for delivery. The question we are asking is:
How can we better leverage these foundations to engage members and community partners in a stronger, more project- and service-based network of involvement?
Rather than engagement being meeting-centred, we see an opportunity for it to be increasingly mission-centred — where people connect through shared action, shared causes and shared outcomes. This approach allows different generations to contribute in ways that align with their availability, skills and aspirations.
We are also pleased that Bianca Lobo, Director of Diversity & Inclusion, will be supporting the Board in bringing this learning and conversation to our club meeting 1st April. This will provide an opportunity for all members to engage more deeply in shaping how we evolve together.
This is not a one-off discussion. It is a continuing journey of learning, reflection and development as we strengthen our culture, structure and impact. We warmly welcome your insights and ideas. The future of our club is something we build together — thoughtfully, inclusively and with purpose.
Next Wednesday, we gather for one of the most significant events in our calendar — our International Women’s Day Breakfast. I look forward to seeing many of you there as we continue building connection, community and impact together.
Warm regards,
